Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re driving to our practice, we provide secure undercover parking on site. You can access it via the first driveway on the left, behind our building off Belmont Road. (Please refer to the map on our contact us page).

Buzz us from the driveway intercom by pressing ‘03’ followed by the ‘bell button’ and the gates will automatically open.

Our allocated parking bays are on the very bottom level (level -2) and are marked with ‘Mosman Fine Dental’ signs.

Take the lift to Ground Floor and we’re on the right as you exit.

If you’re taking public transport, there is a bus stop in front of the practice on both sides of Military Road.

After booking your first appointment with us, we’ll send you a welcome pack via email or by post if you wish. In the welcome pack will be a medical history form for you to fill out and hand to us on arrival.

Included in your welcome pack is some extra information about our practice and instructions on how to get here.

If you have any previous dental records or x-rays, please bring them along to your first visit. We can use X-rays that are within 12 months old, saving you having to have new X-rays done.

To save you time, we can request your existing dental records be forwarded to us on your behalf. All you need to do is fill out one of our ‘Release of Records’ forms. We’ll then send it to your previous dental practice and follow it up for you. Please do this well before your appointment with us as your existing practice will need time to send to the records to us.

You’ll receive a warm welcome from one of our front office staff who will collect your completed medical history form. If you didn’t get a chance to fill it in, don’t worry – we can complete the form with you on arrival.

They will then give you a quick orientation of our practice so you can familiarise yourself with our amenities and feel at home. For your comfort, complimentary refreshments are also available.

During your appointment, your dentist will thoroughly assess your current dental status by performing an oral examination. This may include baseline dental x-rays and photographs. Unless previously arranged (i.e. emergency dental), no treatment is carried out at this appointment. But your dentist will take the time to understand your dental concerns and discuss the results of your oral examination with you. They will also allow time to discuss treatment options and for you to ask any questions.

If you need treatment, we will present you with the options available to you, for your consideration. If you’d like to go ahead, we can get the process started right away by getting you booked in for your next appointment.

‘Best practise’ guidelines suggest that you need routine dental x-rays done every 2 years for intraoral xrays (bitewings) and every 5 years for jaw xrays (OPG). This, however, depends on your age and dental disease risks which your dentist can discuss with you.

Dental x-rays are important in assisting your dentist with oral examinations. They reveal what your dentist is unable to see between your teeth and under your gums, allowing for early detection of dental issues.

We do not normally take x-rays for pregnant women or very young children.

Unfortunately, brushing alone is not enough to keep your teeth sparkling clean. Our mouths are full of hard to reach nooks and crannies where tartar and plaque can easily build up. This causes decay and gum disease.

Our dentists generally recommend having a professional scale and polish every 6 months. But, if you have established gum/jawbone disease or wear orthodontic braces, every 3 – 4 months may be more appropriate.

Hygienists and Oral health therapists (OHT’s) are dental professionals who work in conjunction with your dentist. They specialise in all things to do with cleaning your teeth, providing oral hygiene education and preventative treatment to help you stay cavity-free!

Oral Health Therapists perform regular dental hygiene but are further university trained to perform dental fillings, check-ups and even dental extractions! They are especially good with managing children’s dental needs.

Our philosophy is to have your hygienist or oral health therapist look after your oral hygiene, whilst your dentist looks after more comprehensive dental issues. What’s more, two pairs of expert dentist eyes are always better than one.

Starting your child’s dental experiences as early on in life as possible is key to them normalising the dental experience. It also prevents the development of dental phobias and other negative associations with coming to the dentist.

We recommend that your child commences dental visits as soon as they get their first tooth. This allows for the assessment of their early dental milestones. It also ensures you are on the right track with good home oral care, diet and development for your child.

Sometimes our littlest patients won’t have an examination on their first visit. First visits are a good time to sit and play in the dental chair and get familiar with the environment and dentist.

We’re HICAPS ready. So, if your private health insurance has dental cover, we can swipe your card and claim your rebate on the spot! This means you only pay any gap fees on the day of treatment.

We are not affiliated with any health fund provider, nor do we recommend one health fund over another. Whilst we can give suggestions on what to look out for when choosing a private health policy with dental cover, we always encourage you to shop around, do your homework to ensure you receive the right financial product for you..

‘Minor dental’ refers to check-ups, teeth cleaning, x-rays and small fillings. ‘Major dental’ refers to extractions, crowns, root canal treatment, implants and orthodontics. These types of treatments are normally only covered after you have observed your waiting period. They often also limit the amount of procedures they will cover per calendar year. This may mean if you have a lot of urgent work to do, only part of your work will be covered under a health fund.

Quality dental work can be expensive. It is not uncommon for complex treatment plans to range from hundreds of dollars to tens of thousands of dollars nowadays. Unfortunately, health funds will often cap how much they will cover you for per year, which isn’t always advantageous in situations where certain dental work cannot be split into multiple stages.

If you need important dental treatment but also a little short-term financial help, we have you covered. We offer dental finance options through a third-party finance company, such as TLC Pty Ltd.

We prepare your application online for you. Once approved, the total cost of your treatment is covered. You can then start your treatment without delays, whilst servicing your repayments over your chosen term.
